World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday March 2nd this year. We had great fun in school with loads of exciting activities throughout the day. The children enjoyed a book swap, dressing up as their favourite characters, listening to stories, designing book covers and they even got a visit from the boys and girls in 6th class. Each class took time to read to each other. Below is a picture of the shared reading with 6th class. The whole day was a huge success and we can't wait for World Book Day 2018 already!!

Last Thursday the boys and girls of 2nd Class B had their very own science fair. We invited other classes to come and see the outstanding projects. Everyone was very impressed. There are certainly some budding scientists in 2nd Class B! The boys and girls also got to go to the halla to see the work of the older boys and girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class. Well done to all of the boys and girls on their hard work and a special thank you to the parents, relatives and guardians at home who also put in a huge effort helping the children to prepare. The day was a great success and the boys and girls should be very proud of themselves. For more pictures of our science fair, take a look at 'Our Class Work'.
The boys and girls are all very excited this week getting ready for our own science fair on Thursday 17th of November in school. As well as getting to go to the halla to see the projects made by 4th,5th and 6th class students, 2nd class will be displaying their own projects in our classroom. Below are some useful links you may like to take a look at during science week to try out at home. We can't wait to share pictures of our science fair with you in the coming days. http://www.education.com/science-fair/second-grade/ http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryforkids/a/2ndgradeprojects.htm http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/40-cool-science-experiments-web http://www.scienceprojectresources.com/2nd_grade_science_fair_projects.asp The 10th annual Maths Week Ireland, an all island celebration of Mathematics, runs from October 15th to 23th 2016. During this time we are encouraging the boys and girls to celebrate all things maths and to explore maths through many different mediums. Below are examples of some of the Maths Week Challenges prepared for the boys and girls of 2nd class that you may be interested in trying at home. This week we are going to try and make symmetrical butterflies in class. We cannot wait to show you the results! For more ideas and to see what we have been up to in maths please take a look at the maths tab on our blog.
The boys and girls in second class B were very excited today. Local paralympian Niamh McCarthy came to visit our school. Niamh competed in the discus during the paralympics in Rio this summer and won a silver medal. The boys and girls were very impressed especially when they found out that she trained six times a week and that she was able to throw the discus a distance of 26 metres. We really enjoyed her visit. Congratulations to Niamh from all of us here in 2nd Class B.
Last week 2nd Class B were celebrating space week. We learned alot of new interesting facts about space. The boys and girls discussed the different planets and even made fact files about their favourite planet. Everyone did an excellent job. The boys and girls really enjoyed learning about the planets by watching The Planet Song which you can see below......enjoy! 2nd Class B were learning all about the water cycle today. We learned that there are four main stages: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. We used the story of Drippy the Drop and his adventure to help us understand each stage. You can listen to the story of Drippy and his Water Cycle adventure below. We also listened to a song all about the water cycle, you can watch it again here. Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our 2nd class information evening will take place on Thursday September 29th from 18:00-18:30. We will discuss the year ahead and we will also be available to answer any questions you may have. Both Carol - Anne and I look forward to meeting you there. Kind Regards, Niamh Over the last few weeks we have been discussing time and chronology in 2nd Class B. We discussed how over time all of the boys and girls have grown and changed. We acted as historians and analysed pictorial evidence. The boys and girls sequenced pictures of themselves and discussed how they have changed over time.
